Shadow Halls
Shadow Halls is a horror game made for an AI-focused class at the University of Baltimore. The player is supposed to roam the facility looking for keys that will help them escape. They must do this while avoiding the creatures that lurk in the facilities halls.
This game was made with a team of two, including myself, and I was responsible for helping design the game as well as programming the AI and the various menus. Originally I just had the thought to add sight to the creatures but I wanted to go a step further and add hearing as well. The player makes various degrees of sound based on what they are doing and the AI can pick up on these sounds from certain distances. They don’t go straight into chasing the player but rather they investigate the area before returning to their usual roam. With this addition, the player was also given the ability to throw rocks to make noise as a distraction. I personally loved the idea of the player being heard and then hearing a shriek from a nearby monster.
Most of the assets such as models and textures were free assets available for use.
